Now Enrolling

The Oak Ridge Youth Development School is accepting applications for enrollment in the Lift Them Up tutoring program.  Students who are enrolled in kindergarten through 8th grade are eligible to attend.

COVID-19 has made us take look at how we can do things better to keep our families and staff safe.

You will now be able to complete your enrollment forms online via PandaDoc’s. Request the form, which will be downloaded or emailed to you. Please complete all the information. Special note: We suggest you download and complete forms via computer, laptop or iPad. The forms are more difficult to navigate via cell phones.

Make sure all highlighted text fields are completed. If you do not have a response type the word (none) or (N/A) in the field. After completion and you sign the document it will automatically be forwarded to our school office.

If you choose to download and print, please fax to (913) 788-8038. There will be a tone prompt that will generate the fax.

Enrollment is completed when all of the documents are received and approved by the office. That includes the (2) health forms that require a signature and notarization. Download and print those forms.

After they are completed and notarized, you can scan to rkirkwood@ormbc.org or janderson@ormbc.org. If you choose to fax please fax to 913-788-8038.

You may also mail to Oak Ridge Youth Development School, Attn: Enrollment, 9301 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, KS 66112-1530.

Mangahigh

MangaHigh.com is a game-based learning site in which students play math games as a fun way to learn new concepts and apply knowledge.  Games cover certain learning topics and are sorted by ability and grade level.  They are designed to adapt in difficulty to the ability of the student, keeping the student in their zone of proximal development.  Mangahigh’s educational content is based on the common core.

Lexia Reading

Lexia® PowerUp Literacy® accelerates literacy gains for students in grades 6–12 who are at risk of not meeting College- and Career-Ready Standards. Proven to be up to five times as effective as the average middle school reading intervention, PowerUp enables students to make multiple years of growth in a single academic year.

Designed to respect the time and maturity of the adolescent learner, PowerUp immerses students in an age-appropriate learning experience that is tailored to their individual strengths and weaknesses. PowerUp’s adaptive instructional model maximizes student learning and provides motivational tools to minimize the time required for students to start mastering grade-level skills.

Enrollment

Enrollment is year round.  Please complete one application per scholar you would like to have tutored.  There is no charge for this service.  Each scholar will receive no more than one semester or tutoring unless specifically discussed and agreed.  Tutoring sessions may be less than a semester based on progress made.  There is no guarantee that your scholar will receive tutoring until you are contacted to schedule weekly sessions.

Requirements

You are required to provide transportation to and from tutoring sessions.  Your scholar may not arrive more than 10 minutes prior to their session and must be picked up within 5 minutes from the completion of their one-hour session.  If your scholar must miss a session for any reason, please notify staff immediately by emailing cjennings@ormbc.org.

If a student misses 2 sessions in a row or more than 3 sessions total without just cause, their tutoring will be discontinued and you will have to reapply.  If your child is sick, we accept this as a reason for missing their appointment.  If your child was sent home from school or was unable to attend school, they should not attend their tutoring appointment.

Information
  • Your scholar will receive a healthy snack prior to tutoring but this does not replace a full meal.
  • Your scholar has access to MangaHigh and/or Lexia at home.  The more you integrate these programs into your child’s learning, the better they will do over time.  Please utilize these programs as they have been paid for and there is no limit to their use by your scholar.
  • There is no guarantee that your scholar will receive a tutoring appointment at the time of application.  Referrals are made by the Kansas City Kansas School district and individual applications are accepted year round.  If you are not provided with tutoring at the time of application, you will be placed on a wait list and notified as soon as an appointment is available.
  • Appointment times cannot and will not be switched as all available tutors and times will be full year round.  We will try to work with you and your schedule but availability may be very limited.
