School Counselor

Job Title: School Counselor

Department: Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development

Qualifications: Holds a Kansas Department of Education certificate in school counseling which requires a master’s degree or higher in guidance and counseling or counselor education. Ability to analyze data to inform work and decision making, analyze and evaluate available data, assess student needs and develop and implement procedures and policies to support student achievement.

Responsibilities for School Counselors:

Job Summary: The certified school counselor provides leadership in the school through the implementation of a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program to promote academic, social/emotional, and college/career development, while ensuring equity and access for all students.

Will work to support student achievement, social/emotional development, and college/career readiness. Design, implement and share a comprehensive character education program (ie:  virtue of the week).  Demonstrates the ability to work with diverse groups. Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing. Utilize technology and software applications as appropriate.  Designs and implement a data-driven, comprehensive school counseling program for all students to address barriers to student learning and to close the achievement/opportunity gap. Delivers programs that promote students’ development of essential mindsets and behavior standards including, but not limited to, learning skills, social skills, self-management skills, and college/career readiness skills. Help teachers and staff review and disaggregates student achievement, attendance, and behavior data to identify and implement interventions with current knowledge of promotion, retention, and graduation requirements.

Use school data to identify and assist individual students who do not perform at grade level and do not have opportunities and resources to be successful in school. Acts as a systems change agent in collaboration with the school leadership team to ensure a safe, supportive, and respectful school climate that promotes the social/emotional and academic development and success of all students.

Fosters family and community partnerships to support the social/emotional and academic development of all students. Infuses cultural competence, ethical and professional competencies in planning, organizing, implementing the components of the counseling program. Provides preventative education and skill building along with counseling for students during times of transition, separation, heightened stress and critical change. Uses appropriate responses and a variety of intervention strategies to meet the needs of the individual, group or school community before, during and after crisis response.

Supports the continuum of mental health services, including prevention and tiered intervention strategies, and collaborates with both school-based and community mental health providers to enhance student success.

School Nurse
This employee is responsible for meeting students’ medical and physical needs in the classroom or 
educational environment as assigned by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of 
health and well-being. This employee is also responsible for helping to implement, oversee and 
guarantee the strict following of all of the COVID-19 procedures and protocols.   
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  Oversee the consistent implementation of COVID-19 procedures and 
protocols.   Assess student’s health through observation, screening procedures, and communication 
to establish a protocol permitting students to function effectively at school, home, and community. 
Notify the student’s parent/guardian when health problems have been detected that require 
professional attention. Assist the parent/guardian to understand the health needs of the student.  
Enforce the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) immunization requirements and 
assist in the prevention and control of communicable diseases. Administration of student 
medications according to School Policy and Procedures. Work within a framework of the Kansas 
Nurse Practice Act for implementation of laws and regulations pertaining to school health and 
Kansas Licensure Requirements. Complete job-related assignments.  Provide emergency care for 
student accidents and sudden illness. Notify parent/guardian if accident/illness warrants. Detain 
students in the nursing clinic until the parent/guardian assumes responsibility. Facilitate therapeutic 
relationships with students, families, and community.  
 
QUALIFICATIONS: Hold and maintain current Kansas practical nursing licensure.  Minimum of two 
(2) years health related experience. CPR/AED certification AHA BLS. Exercise assessment and 
critical thinking skills when delivering nursing services in the school setting. Maintain confidentiality 
and use good judgment in handling and dispersing information while applying new concepts and 
details and adapt easily to change. Must be able to communicate effectively and to work 
independently within established guidelines in a timely manner. Dependable in attendance and 
observance of duty hours.  
 
COMMUNICATION/ORGANIZATION: Maintains communication with internal and external 
stakeholders such as Board of Education, Educational Agencies, Federal/State/Local agencies, 
teachers, other school personnel, parents/guardians, businesses, and community to enhance 
cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students. Compiles data for statistical 
purposes. Maintains confidentiality regarding district records. Ability to speak clear and concisely in 
written or oral communication. Includes giving instructions, assignments, or directions to 
subordinates or assistants as needed to carry out duties.  
 
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete 
variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of 
instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Requires the ability to compare 
and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, 
people, or things. Facilitate all COVID related activities. 
 
LANGUAGE SKILL: Ability is required to schedule several activities, meetings, and/or events; often 
gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to 
independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but 
different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to 
work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types 
and/or purposes. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. 
Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem 
solving with equipment is moderate to significant.

Responsibilities:

Before/after school staff will work directly with assigned students, to provide a safe, responsible, well-supervised before and after school program while acting as a positive adult role model, coach, and mentor. Before/after school staffs must have a genuine interest in the growth, development, and provision of a safe, nurturing, and fun environment for the students they teach. A Before/after school staff’s ability to establish authority through leadership, communication, and most importantly patience, will be required in giving our students the stability and nurturing atmosphere they need to succeed. The Before/after school staff is responsible for planning and implementing engaging activities and lessons. Before/after school staffs are responsible for preparing a creative learning environment, establishing a positive rapport with members and co-workers, and preparing materials and supplies.

GENERAL SUMMARY: To serve ORYDS by providing support to students and staff. Work is performed under the supervision of the ORYDS Administrative Staff.

Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.

  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.

Food Service – Culinary Assistant
Job Title: Food Service – Culinary Assistant
Department: Nutritional Services
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Good communication and customer service skills. Good organizational, record keeping and telephone skills. Prior Experience in Food Service/Culinary Department. Ability to lift 35# alone and 50# and above with assistance. Must be able to stand continuously throughout assigned shift.
